Support, Advice and Training for School Leaders
Sustainable change in schools depends greatly on the quality of educational leadership. At the heart of any successful change is the impact of effective leadership.
Since November 2005 post-primary principals and senior staff have been attending the Leading Learning conferences co-ordinated by the Regional Training Unit and supported by the Curriculum Advisory Support Service (CASS). The conferences reflect a number of key principles which underpin the implementation strategy:
- The importance of school leadership.
- The need to develop a plan for each school.
- A focus on pupil learning and teaching approaches.
- The need to work together.
- The need to support teachers.
The purpose of these conferences is to help school leaders, in conjunction with their staff, create and develop a vision for change and plan for its implementation.
Feedback from the post-primary conferences has been positive with many participants commenting favourably on the quality of both the training and the resources. Nursery and primary school leaders will be attending similar conferences this month. More information on Leading Learning is available from the Regional Training website.
