Pilots and Trials
Sullivan Upper School
The following information is a transcript of an interview conducted with the pilot school at the end of the first year of the pilot.
The Vice Principal was the main coordinator for the Key Stage Regional Pilot and appointed a curriculum team representative for each department within the school. At the time of the interview (June 06) this school was still in the initial stages of planning the implementation of the Key Stage 3 Regional Pilot. The main decision made was that 3 days would be allocated to disseminate the information on each of the 3 cornerstones. The school has identified opportunities for collaborative units amongst other departments - Art, Drama and Music.
Some challenges have been foreseen by the interviewees, these include: . Ensuring the staff are committed to the planning and supportive of the changes that will be made within the school . Time to meet with other curriculum leaders . Finding the resources for the new changes
Sullivan Upper invited their ELB link officer to the school on awareness days and meetings with the curriculum team. No immediate training needs of the staff were identified, but the following general challenges were foreseen by the interviewees:
- Reducing Content.
- Assessment for Learning - moving from a content based curriculum to a skills based concept.
