Assessment

Pupil Profile

Two years ago, CCEA was commissioned to develop and trial a Pupil Profile report system. Since then, CCEA has been working with parents, teachers and other educational partners to produce and trial a range of formats as well as software solutions.

So What Is It?

The purpose of the Pupil Profile is to reflect each child’s individual progress and achievement every year, as well as help support and inform decisions made throughout their school education.

The Pupil Profile will:

  • provide consistency in reporting within and between schools;
  • provide parents, pupils and teachers with information about their child’s achievements, aptitudes, interests and needs over a period of time;
  • be based on ongoing assessment;
  • form a focal point for discussions between teachers and parents; and
  • provide a source of useful, quality information that will help teachers to plan learning and teaching each year.

Annual Pupil Profile update - March 2007

Training for Year 5 teachers

By now principals should have received a letter from CCEA to let them know that we are inviting Year 5 teachers to training on the Pupil Profile.  The “Delivering the Pupil Profile” training seminars will take place from 30 April through to early June.  Invitations are due to arrive in schools in early April. At the event teachers will receive information on the annual pupil profile cycle, the components of the profile and training in the use of the InCas assessment tool.

Website now live

You can find out more about the Pupil Profile by visiting the Northern Ireland Curriculum website - www.nicurriculum.org.uk/pupil_profile. The site has a wealth of information including sample pupil profile report formats, information on InCas online assessment and the timetable for implementation. Although the information now on the site is primarily aimed at teachers, content aimed at parents and pupils will be added in the near future. A leaflet for parents has been produced and will be sent to schools at the end of April.
